| Dr. Sharma brings extensive experience in GIS and demography to the UPACE research group. Dr. Sharma will lead the group in scaling, filtering, and analyzing geocoded data using GIS software and spatial data analysis software. Dr. Sharma teaches a course at the GSPH in GIS systems which involves scaling, filtering and analyzing geocoded data using GIS software and spatial data analysis software. He is experienced in contour and spatial filtering models that enable recoding GIS features with reference to important characteristics of the data, such as sites of potential toxic exposure, rather than coding linked to arbitrary administrative boundaries.
Dr. Sharma will work with the team in accessing and evaluating exposure related databases, specifically as they can be related to adverse outcomes. He has also applied statistical data analysis tools in looking at the socioeconomic and environmental determinants of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Dr Sharma has also been working with his colleague Dr. Parmanto in the development of SOVAT - Spatial OLAP Visualization and Analysis Tool by selecting and evaluating databases for use in SOVAT. This novel and innovative system combines two core technologies: on-line analytical processing (OLAP) and geospatial information system (GIS). |
